Jessica Lawrence was a professor at the University prior to the Outbreak. As the political war raged in Wisconsin at the time, only young students were brave (or stupid) enough to pursue careers in teaching, because of the massive cutbacks occurring almost yearly within the public sector. Professor Lawrence taught a generalized humanities curriculum, encompassing several aspects of humanities that had once been specific areas of study, prior to the massive cutbacks. She took this position because she had no other options at the time, desperately in need of a job that would at least put food on her table. She was a single woman with little time for social interactions. In her loneliness, she became very introspective and vigilant of the world that went on around her.
Post-apocalypse, Jessica's sole purpose is to educate those who remain in the ravaged post-apocalyptic world. Many are resistant to her attempts, but there are those who seek her out, particularly to educate children or younger adults who have not had the fortune to become literate or scholarly, due to the lack of educational opportunities in a relatively uncivilized world. Jessica is widely liked, and is willing to reach out to any who are interested in self-improvement. Her main goal in providing educational services is to prevent the world from becoming completely barbaric, educating people to make intelligent choices and avoid repeating history... again.
